Prema writes personal account of her journey in music
Prema’s history (Pg. 7) – The guys in The Cutting Room (the studio) were incredible. It was like a little family and within a few hours of meeting them, we all shared a common affinity for each other. Everyone at the studio was behind this project 100%. We funded this album ourselves and as a result our budget was finite; so everyone working on this album did what they could to help. People like Eshy Gazit, Rocky Gallo and Patrick Ermlich worked so hard to get this album out within the incredibly tight time constraints. The sweet interns who worked at the studio even stayed till the wee hours to help out and watch the project come to its conclusion. Everyone there rallied to make this happen and this really was a true blessing; I left the studio knowing that I had made lasting friendships with the people there.
The session in NYC took 13 days to complete. The music was recorded 'live' by Peter, Luis, Damian & Bashiri. We merged the 'live' recordings with Wah Wah's arrangements and recordings which he did in LA. The entire album was mixed in a mere 2 days by my new mate Eshy Gazit. :-) It all just came together with such ease and finesse, you know? Like wonderful pieces of the puzzle just gently floating into place. ‘in Fusion’ is not just a culmination of 2 years hard work, but it is also a culmination of my whole life's work in music; I could not be prouder or happier.
I left NYC more physically exhausted than I had ever been in my life. In fact I was fast asleep before the plane even left the tarmac! During one brief waking moment on the flight back, I sat bolt upright, completely awake in body, mind, spirit and soul; I was filled with the permeating realisation that I had just accomplished everything I had ever wanted to with my vocation. That's huge! The emptiness that was once in my heart was now full to the brim, because I had done this the right way; the right way for me, which was being true to myself, being honest about the music I make, reaching for my dreams, pushing myself to be a better person and musician, and living life with love. The opportunity to work with these legendary and astoundingly brilliant musicians was all I ever wanted and I have this rich, beautiful album to show for my life so far. What a blessing. :-)
I now forge ahead with new vigour. The journey so far has been phenomenal. My life and music have taken turns and twists and I have gone down paths I never dreamed I could. I feel ablaze with passion for what I do and there is already another album brewing in me. But for the minute, I look forward to celebrating 'in Fusion' with live shows, gigs and a chance to play with these breathtaking musicians again. As far as I am concerned, all my dreams have already come true and everything from this point on is pure gravy...ahhh, but what a stunning gravy it's gonna be!
Please stay with me for the ride...
